Association of cryobanks supports the World Digestive Health Day in Ukraine

2015WDHD_GISliderWorld Digestive Health Day was launched in 2005 by the World Gastroenterology Organisation. And every year on May 29th physicians and patients worldwide carry out a number of activities to raise awareness about the diseases of the digestive system and to promote methods of prevention.

In the last decades it was shown that digestive tract stem cells play important role in the processes of regeneration of the mucous membrane of the stomach, intestines, liver, and malignant transformation and metastasis. Accordingly, scientists develop techniques of cell and gene therapy of diseases of the digestive tract.

Association of cryobanks supports World Digestive Health Day in Ukraine and draws attention of the medical community and patients to innovative methods of treatment of diseases of the digestive system, based on the use of the regenerative potential of stem cells, as well as to ongoing clinical trials in the industry.

To date, cell therapy is considered as the next generation of drugs in the treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In clinical studies conducted by the Institute of Cell Therapy it was shown that administration of cord blood increases the efficiency of the treatment of acute pancreatitis. For example, in 2012 the Ministry of Health of Ukraine approved treatments of acute pancreatitis using cord blood stem cells and umbilical cord tissue, developed by the Institute of Cell Therapy. Currently the Institute of Cell Therapy conducts clinical trials to study the methods of cell therapy in the treatment of liver cirrhosis and viral hepatitis.
