Oleksandr Shalimov monument unveiled in Kyiv
A monument to founder of the National Surgery and Organ Transplantation Institute Oleksandr Shalimov has been unveiled in Kyiv.
Representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration, clergymen, colleagues and sons of the famous surgeon attended the official ceremony. Oleksandr Shalimov is known as the founder of Ukrainian surgery school. He performed as many as 40,000 operations and was the first doctor to successfully transplant pancreas for diabetes cases. The first heart transplantation was performed under Oleksandr Shalimov’s guidance. Oleksandr Shalimov was a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and of the New York Academy of Sciences.
