For the first time in Ukraine, the “Kit for the Collection and Transportation of Human Biological Material”, provided by the Institute of Cell Therapy, a cofounder and active member of the Association of Cryobanks, is registered by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine as a medical product.
The kit includes consumables certified by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, necessary for the collection and transportation of biological material collected during childbirth (umbilical cord blood, umbilical cord, placenta) from any part of Ukraine to the capital’s laboratory of Cryobank.
“Kit for the Collection and Transportation of Human Biological Material” was developed by the Institute of Cell Therapy taking into account the requirements of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and international standards. After all, the quality of consumables, anticoagulants (substances that prevent blood clotting), cryoprotectants (substances that protect cells from ultra-low temperatures), the temperature of transportation are the first important factors determining the further suitability of the collected biomaterial for the manufacturing of immunobiological drugs, their safety, quality and therapeutic efficacy.
Independent reputable organizations in the field of biobanking and biotechnologies, including the Parents Guide to Cord Blood Foundation, the Association of Cryobanks of Umbilical Cord Blood, Other Human Tissues and Cells, have repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining proper temperature in the transportation of perinatal tissues.
Conditions for the collection, transportation, processing, testing and cryopreservation of umbilical cord blood are set out in the EU directives and the NetCord-FACT International Standards for Cord Blood Collection, Banking, and Release.
The container provided by the Institute of Cell Therapy is designed to protect the material from mechanical damage and ensure the required temperature throughout the transportation time. To monitor the temperature of transportation, the kit includes a temperature registrator that performs continuous temperature recording. The balanced content of anticoagulant in the package for collecting umbilical cord blood allows to keep its valuable biological properties for a long time.
The creation of the “Kit for the Collection and Transportation of Human Biological Material” and its registration by the Ministry of Health as a medical product is an important step of the national biobank in the implementation of international requirements to collection, transportation, processing, testing and cryopreservation of biomaterial.
