The Association of Cryobanks supports Stem Cell Awareness Day in Ukraine

SCAD_2015October 14, 2015 is a Stem Cell Awareness Day, whose purpose is to unite worldwide biotech companies, professional organizations and individuals working in the stem cells industry.

Stem Cell Awareness Day is intended to promote understanding of the importance of stem cell research and the range of their possible uses in the treatment of diseases and injuries.

For millions of people around the world who are suffering from incurable diseases and injuries Stem Cell Awareness Day is an opportunity to learn about the latest scientific achievements in the medical industry. In the USA, experts working in the field of stem cell research, are even invited to give lectures on stem cells in high schools.

As Matthew Farrow, the world’s first recipients of cord blood stem cells transplant said 27 years after his operation, “I think there should be a stronger message educating the public on the truth about cord blood and cord blood stem cells. I feel there is too much negative energy in the media about embryonic stem cells and the public is not hearing enough about cord blood stem cells. This leaves an impression in people’s minds that stem cells are a negative thing. I was in a fast food restaurant one day and I overheard one customer tell another that cord blood banking is all a scam, so I went over and introduced myself. We need to get out more positive messages about cord blood stem cells.”

In Ukraine, Association of cryobanks supports international initiatives for the Stem Cell Awareness Day. Also Association of cryobanks on a regular basis provides professional consultations of leading industry experts on issues, coming both from the medical community and patients, as well as individuals, interested in biotechnology.
