The Leading European Cord Blood Bank PBKM Joined The Association Of Cryobanks Of Umbilical Cord Blood, Other Human Tissues And Cells

PBKM2Association Of Cryobanks Of Umbilical Cord Blood, Other Human Tissues And Cells cordially welcomes a new member of the Assotiation — Polish Bank Of Stem Cells (Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych — PBKM).

Poland is one of the first countries in Europe, which began banking of cord blood stem cells and have made significant progress in hematologic transplantation (treatment of blood cancer). During many years, the Polish hematologic clinics accepted both patients from Ukraine for the treatment of malignant blood diseases using stem cell transplantation techniques and Ukrainian colleagues for professional internships.

For years, the Polish Bank Of Stem Cells (PBKM), founded in 2002, has been the leader of cord blood banking. It is worth noting that PBKM is the only cord blood bank in Poland accredited according to AABB, ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004. Also PBKM became the first cord blood bank in Poland that released the preserved umbilical cord blood sample for clinical use. Currently, the experience of successful applications of cord blood stem cells stored in PBKM counts 13 transplants.

PBKM3

PBKM is the part of an international group of cord blood banks Famicord, which successfully operates in Romania, Latvia, Italy, Hungary, Spain and and is number 2 in Europe among stem cells banks in terms of new clients acquired and in terms of revenue. As whole, Famicord Group controlled by PBKM released 28 units of umbilical cord blood and cord tissue for treatment out of which: 18 were cord blood, 10 – mesenchymal stem cells from Wharton jelly. Also PBKM is a member of the European Association of Family Cord Blood Banks — Cord Blood Europe.

In addition to undeniable leadership in banking of cord blood stem cells, PBKM is the only cord blood bank in Poland, which offers unique service of the preservation of placental blood. And at the international conference «Cell Technologies In Obstetrics, Gynecology, Neonatology And Pediatric Neurology», which was held in November 2013 in Kiev by the Institute of Cell Therapy, Dr. Dariusz Boruczkowski from PBKM in his report described the first cases in Poland of application of neural progenitor cells derived from umbilical cord blood, as well as shared experience of the use of mesenchymal stem cells isolated from umbilical cord tissue.

PBKM4

International cooperation between PBKM and cryobanks from Ukraine and Russia will promote the development of banking of cord blood stem cells and other human tissues and cells in Eastern Europe, harmonization of standards and increase of quality of health services, as well as open up new scientific and market horizons for PBKM.
